All prices are starting prices, not fixed prices. Lined trousers, very wide or flared legs, heavy or delicate fabrics, and rush jobs cost more. You always get the exact price before we start.
Hemming only for now — we don't take in waists, taper legs or replace zippers.

Email a photo of the pants and tell us the finished inseam you want, or how much to take off. Firm price within 48 hours.

Drop off or mail in
Book a drop-off time in Kerrisdale, or mail the pants from anywhere in BC. Address is sent once your order is confirmed. Postage paid by you both ways.

Ready in 3–5 business days
Counted from the day we receive them. Pick up in Kerrisdale or we mail them back.
How to tell us the length
Option 1 — pin them. Put the pants on with the shoes you'll wear most. Fold the hem under to where you want it and pin or safety-pin it on both legs. Send a photo. We hem to the pin.
Option 2 — give us a number. Measure a pair that already fits from the crotch seam straight down the inside of the leg to the bottom edge. That's your inseam. Tell us that number and we match it. Our guide on how to measure inseam shows exactly where to put the tape.
Not sure how much "break" you want? No break sits just on top of the shoe with a clean line (modern, works with slim legs). Half break has one soft fold at the front (the safe default for dress pants). Full break has a deeper fold (classic, works with wide legs). If you tell us the look you want, we'll set the length for it.
Original hem vs regular hem on jeans
Regular hem — $20
We cut the leg to length and sew a new turned hem. Clean and sturdy, but the bottom edge is new denim: darker, no fading, a different stitch colour. Fine for dark or raw denim and work jeans.
Original hem — $28
We cut out a band of denim above the factory hem and sew the original hem back on, then press the seam flat. The wash line, distressing and chain-stitch all stay. This is what people mean by a European hem or euro hem. Best for faded, light-wash or selvedge jeans where the hem is part of the look.

How much does it cost to hem pants in Vancouver?
At Topology Alterations a standard pant hem starts at $18, a regular jeans hem at $20 and an original-hem jeans hem at $28. Across Vancouver, hems typically run $15–35 depending on the shop and the fabric.
How much can you shorten pants?
As much as you like. Beyond about 3 inches on tapered legs the leg opening gets slightly wider, because you're cutting higher up where the leg is bigger. We'll tell you if that will be noticeable on your pair.
Can you make pants longer?
Only by whatever is folded inside the current hem, usually 1–2 inches on dress pants and under 1 inch on jeans. Send a photo of the inside of the hem and we'll tell you.
Should I wash new jeans before hemming?
Yes if they're raw or unwashed denim — they can shrink up to an inch in length. Pre-washed jeans are fine to hem straight away.
Do you hem pants while I wait?
No. We work by appointment and turn pants around in 3–5 business days. Rush service is quoted separately.
Can I hem pants myself?
A basic machine hem on cotton pants is doable at home. Our guide, how to hem pants, walks through it. Original-hem jeans, lined trousers and blind hems on wool are where most home attempts go wrong, and those are the ones worth sending to us.
